Autumn, Season of New Paths

Autumn is almost here. It’s the season of pumpkin everything! Either you love it or you don’t but wherever you look you’ll soon be seeing the signs of the changing season. I enjoy Autumn almost as much as hot summer days. Autumn gives you the chance to bundle up, take hayrides, carve pumpkins, peruse local markets, sit by a bonfire and enjoy all things pumpkin. And if pumpkin is here then you know Turkey goodness isn’t far behind.

Take the time to walk in the woods on paths covered by brilliant colored leaves and admire the refection of the colors in the streams and rivers. There is so much to take in, so much beauty and color. It’s the perfect season for family photos or just to take some beautiful photos of nature.
Autumn is the time to follow a new path. Find a new way. Look towards the future and adjust accordingly. This is perfect for the family of an addict, a recovering addict, an addict that wants to stop and everyone else. This is the season of following paths, no matter how rocky or bumpy, no matter how many hills you must climb or streams you need to cross, when you get to your destination it will be beautiful. All because you took your own path to get there.

No matter how addiction affects you there comes a time where you need to look around you and make sure that the path you are traveling on is making you happy, making you experience joy and love, making you feel content and most importantly giving you the life you want. Take the time to assess what works and what doesn’t and adjust accordingly. The direction of your path can change and should change because you change. What a perfect and beautiful time to make that change. You can do it and maybe, just maybe, the new path will lead you to abundant happiness. Only you can choose your path.

Just wandering is perfectly ok because sometime the best destinations are found on unknown roads. Follow your heart and see where it leads you. Autumn is the perfect time for wandering, there is beauty all around so what better way to find a new path. Head to a local park and just start walking. Alone or with others as long as you really see what around you. Remember to not just walk for the sake of exercise, walk for the sense of discovery.

While you’re wandering through nature, observing the changes of the season, you’ll find not only peace but quite possibly answers and direction. Sit and soak in the beauty around you, listen to the sounds and meditate about your future. Where do you want to go? What is making you happy? Sad? What do you imagine your life could be like? What can you do to get there? Do you need to make some changes? How can you mirror the beauty you see around you? This is a perfect time to let go of the old things that are weighing you down and make way for new things that bring you joy. Just like the trees aren’t holding onto the old leaves, they are letting them go so that something new can come.

I find walking through the woods or a park just bring me a sense of calmness. I’m not a hiker so it’s not something I do often, It’s usually a flat path but last year my daughter had me take pictures in a local park. we climbed down to a stream, we found an old railroad bridge and just followed our instincts. Those pictures of my daughter and granddaughter came out amazing. We found great spots, used our imagination and came out with some incredible photographs that will be a memory of that moment forever. It was because we followed an unknown path that we found beauty. Start today to find your beautiful moments.
