Good Day Today

Today was a good day. My son called early this morning and ask if we could watch the 2 kids. At first I was a little like really I had so much to do but kept it to myself and said yes. It was so they could go out looking at places to live since they have a limited amount of time to find a section 8 rental. We’ve watched my granddaughter before but not our step-grandson.

We were able to give him his birthday gifts a week late and he LOVED everything. So I guess I’m pretty good at picking stuff for an 8 year old boy. It’s been quite a while since I had an 8 year old son I wasn’t sure and we haven’t known him all his life so that makes it a little more difficult. We came into his life when he was 7 so it isn’t like we’ve watched him grow up and followed his likes and dislikes. It’s harder to start out when they’re a little older. Do you give them a hug and kiss when they come over? It’s just a little uncomfortable feeling your way unlike the others who we’ve know for their whole lives. I like to plan and do things like arts and crafts with my grandkids but I don’t really know what he likes. Anyway – spoiler alert – He was begging to come back tomorrow because he had so much fun! Yay I did good!

I’m so glad that they came and we had the time to spend with them. We swam for several hours, splashing, floating in tubes, diving for diving sticks and just having fun. We had lunch and watched movies. They painted a little and then I had picked up a spirograph like drawing toy at the dollar store that my grandson fell in love with it. While his sister napped he made design after design. He kept excitingly showing me each design he made and saying that it was so much fun.

We had dinner and he continued to make more designs until they came to pick him up. This was a good day and it will make it so much easier to say yes the next time he asks us to watch him. It was much easier than I thought. Imagine being nervous about watching an eight year old. What was I thinking? Easy Peasy
